How the site is put together
Every page is a stack of blocks. A block is one section, and Insert new block offers about thirty of them:
- Words and layout: Rich Text, Hero Image, Background Image, Image/Banner, Buttons, Card Grid, CTA Band, Stat Band, Steps, Feature Rows, FAQs, Testimonial, Divider, and two table builders.
- Media and files: Image Gallery (masonry, grid, slideshow, or collage), File Downloads (up to 50 files), Partners and Badges logo grids, Location (a map of your pools).
- Live team data: Records, Top Times, Live Programs, Meet Schedule, Team’s Calendar, Coach Bios, Contact Us, and News. These pull straight from your Commit data and update themselves.
- Custom HTML, the escape hatch for embeds.
Every block has Edit, move up/down, Duplicate, Delete, a copy menu to send it to another page, Toggle Half Width, and Advanced Theming for spacing, vertical alignment, and section background.
Step by step
Add a page
-
Open Website → Pages. You’ll see each page’s name, URL, status, and where it sits in the navigation.
-
Click New Page, give it a name and URL (auto-generated from the name, editable, always starting with /), and choose Published or Draft. A draft stays out of your menu and out of search engines while you work on it.
-
Each page’s menu also has Edit SEO settings: the title and description search engines show for that page.
Edit a page
- From the Pages list, open the page menu and choose Edit page content.
- Click any block to change it. Each block has controls to move it up or down, edit its content, and adjust spacing and background.
- Use the add-block button to insert a new section. Pick from the block list: text, images, tables, schedules, records, programs, FAQs, contact forms and more.
- The preview toggles at the top show the page on phone, tablet, and desktop. Always check phone; that’s how most families browse.
- Save keeps your block edits, and saved content is live on the site right away. Publish is per page: it flips a Draft page to Published so it joins the menu.
Post news
- Add a News block to a page and click Manage Articles.
- Add Article: title, an auto-generated /news/ URL, an optional main image, a short summary for the list, and the full article. Articles are Draft until you set them Published.
- The block shows your latest articles as a grid or list, with a “See All” past your chosen count, opening in a popup or as their own page.
Manage files
- Website → Files holds PDFs and documents: Add New File (up to 25 MB each), name it, then Copy Link to use it anywhere on the site. The Used In column shows which pages reference each file, and archiving tucks old ones away.
This one is a web task. Use team.commitswimming.com in a browser.
Common questions
Can I hide a page without deleting it? Yes, switch it to Draft. It drops out of the menu and search engines. Anyone who already has the exact link can still open it, so don’t park secrets there.
Which blocks update on their own? The ones fed by Commit data: records, top times, live programs, meet schedule, and the team calendar. Set them up once and they stay current.
Who can edit the site? Staff with the Website permission. See staff and permissions.
