Fix a best time and add legal splits

Last updated 2026-10-21
Coaches · Meets Pick a different swim, type a time or delete a swimmer's best time, and turn faster opening splits into best times.

Step by step

Change or delete a best time

  1. Open the swimmer from People → Roster and click Performance. Best Times shows a grid of strokes and distances.

  2. Click a time. Its card shows the event, the meet, the time and the date, with Remove and Edit.

  3. Click Edit. Edit best time offers three choices. Pick one and click Next:

    • Choose a different swim: the swimmer’s swims in that event are listed fastest first. Pick one and click Set as best time.
    • Enter a time manually: opens the form where you pick the course and event and type the time.
    • Delete this best time: if the best time is a swim, this hides that swim for your team, including on records and top times, and the next-best swim becomes the best time. If it was typed by hand, it removes it and the fastest swim in the event takes over. Click Delete.

  4. Remove on the card goes straight to the delete step.

Add legal splits for one swimmer

  1. On the swimmer’s Performance tab, click the ⋯ next to Edit Best Times, then Check for legal splits.

The Check for legal splits menu next to Edit Best Times

  2. The Legal splits window lists each opening split that beats the swimmer’s best time, from meets your team approved. Each row shows the split event (“400 Free LCM from the 800 Free”), the meet and date, the split time, the current best and the drop.

  3. Tick the ones you want, or Select all, and click Accept. The button shows how many you picked. When nothing qualifies, the window says “No splits are faster than the current best times.”

Add legal splits for a whole meet

  1. Open Meets → Results and click an approved meet.

  2. Click the ⋯ next to its status and pick Check for legal splits. The same Legal splits window lists splits for every swimmer on your roster who swam the meet. The menu also has Edit meet, the meet’s status and Recheck records.

The meet actions menu on a results meet

  3. Tick the splits you want and click Accept.

An accepted split is added to its meet as a Time Trial swim. Best times, records and top times update from it, and accepting the same split twice never adds a second swim.

Common questions

Which splits count? Only the opening part of a longer swim, at a standard shorter distance in the same stroke and course. Freestyle can split to 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 in yards, or 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 in meters. Backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly split to 50 and 100. IM never splits. Commit needs every split from the start of the race, so a swim with a missing split is left out.

Why doesn’t a split show up? It isn’t faster than the swimmer’s current best, the meet isn’t approved for your team, the swimmer isn’t on your roster, or the results file didn’t include splits.

Will my change survive the next results upload? Yes. A best time you picked, typed or deleted stays until the swimmer swims faster at a meet after your change.

Delete, or choose a different swim? Deleting a swim’s best time hides that swim for your team, the same as hiding it on a record board, so it also leaves your records and top times. Choosing a different swim keeps the old swim in the swimmer’s history; it only stops being the best time. If the swim is real and you want a different best time showing, choose a swim instead of deleting.

Who can do this? Coaches only; families never see these buttons. Picking a swim or typing a time needs edit access to Roster or Meets. Deleting a best time and accepting legal splits need edit access to Reports.
